2016 Amherst Cider Festival:

An Afternoon In The Orchard!

AMHERST – Come celebrate the arrival of fall on Sunday, October 2 with the annual Amherst Cider Festival. This year’s festival will occur at the beautiful Lindabury Orchard on Christian Hill in Amherst. This is the 14th anniversary of the orchard’s purchase and preservation by the Amherst Conservation Commission and the Amherst Land Trust. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs so your whole family can enjoy an afternoon in the orchard!

It’s a great opportunity to spend a fall afternoon with family and friends in an idyllic New England setting. There will be fun and games, with hay rides and special activities for kids, all to the music of Robert Allwarden. A variety of refreshments will be available and a bake sale featuring homemade pies, cookies, and crisps. Pumpkins will also be in supply to help prepare for Halloween!

The centerpiece of this year’s Cider Festival is (as always) cider pressing. The ticket price includes an apple bag that you fill yourself.  Once the bag is filled, Festival Goers can immediately wash their apples and press them into cider.  Each apple bag will generate about a quart of cider!

It all happens on Sunday, October 2, from noon to 4pm at the Lindabury Orchard on Christian Hill in Amherst. Tickets are available at the door with cash or check.  This year’s prices are $10 for adults and $5 kids.  Kids under 5 years are free. The price of admission includes all activities, great music, and a bag of apples that can be pressed into your own cider! Hot dogs, chili and chips will be available for purchase separately—thanks as always to Moulton’s Market for its gracious support in helping with food.

This beautiful property is protected from development in perpetuity for the citizens of Amherst and surrounding area. Friends of the Orchard, a volunteer group of Amherst citizens, restored and maintains the upper orchard. 2016 marks the beginning of efforts to restore the lower orchard, a process that will involve saving some of the existing trees in the lower orchard, removing other trees that are dying or dead, and improving access for all citizens with trails, gathering spots, and picnic tables. Proceeds from the 2016 Cider Festival will support these ambitious plans.

Please join us for a traditional New England fall celebration to have a truly wonderful time while helping support the next phase of restoration for your orchard!  For more information go to AmherstCiderFest.org or Like us on Facebook.
