Boston College’s BC bOp! Returns to Souhegan High School for Jazz Night #1

AMHERST – The Souhegan High School Music Department will host the first Jazz Night of the year on Friday December 9, 2016 at 7:00pm. This year marks the 16th anniversary of the Jazz Night series of concerts hosted at SHS. To kick off our 16th anniversary season, we are proud to welcome BC bOp! to SHS.

In its 28th year at Boston College, BC bOp! is a 30 piece instrumental and vocal jazz ensemble that performs traditional and contemporary jazz literature. Its repertoire of over 50 selections includes music from the 1940s to the present and is designed to satisfy a variety of musical tastes.

BC bOp! may be heard frequently during the year, both on and off campus. Additionally, the band has performed at a number of prestigious public events around Boston, including the 50th wedding anniversary of former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill, the American Cancer Society Ball, and a John F. Kennedy Memorial Ceremony at the Massachusetts State House.

Over the years, BC bOp! has traveled far and wide, swinging hard before both national and international audiences. Annual performances at the BC Arts Festival include the always popular “Dancing with bOp!”

and featured performances with jazz greats like Mike Monaghan and Herb Pomeroy. In February 2012, BC bOp! was the only university ensemble selected for the Young Artists Concert at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, Idaho. Most recently, bOp! performed at the ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn, NY.

BC bOp! will be joined by jazz ensembles from Souhegan HS, Londonderry HS, Milford HS and the Manchester Community Music School. General Admission at the door is $10.00. Doors will open at 6:30pm. For event information, please contact Carl Benevides at cbenevides@sprise.com.
